Mo Willem's Leonardo the Terrible Monster
I first read this book in my undergraduate
program and immediately fell in love with the characters in the story. This
story helps me to remember that each person may be dealing with many different
struggles in life and sometimes they just need a friend to be there for them. I
love to read this to my students when I start to hear “he/she said she isn’t my
friend anymore” (which will be very soon) to remind them to simply be nice to
others.
Robin,
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I have never heard of this book! I often hear children saying "If you don't______, then you can't be my friend" or crying when another child doesn't want to play with them right then. Another common one is "you can't come to my birthday party if you don't ________!" I struggle to combat these attitudes and phrases, but they always seem to return. I will definitely have to look up this book, but would you mind telling me more about it, so I can decide if I want to invest in buying it for my classroom?
Thanks! Mary Grace
Robin,
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this book, but I'll have to add it to my list. It sounds like my teachers would benefit greatly from this book. They constantly deal with the "she isn't my friend" situation.
Thanks,
Katie
